Le Monde – The right wing and the government disagree on local tax hike. Several cities have voted in favour of important local tax hikes, notably in Toulouse (+15%), Marseille, Bordeaux, Lille and Lyon.
Les Echos – Why do French people re-discover stock markets? While the CAC 40 jumped up and rates decreased, individuals returned to financial markets. The general public invested massively in the latest IPOs.
GERMANY
Frankfurter Allgemeine – Coalition to fight increasing burglary crimes. Promotion of safety technologies and introduction of “national task” concept, as well as a new sanction: a ban on driving.
Suddeutsche Zeitung – More money for single parents. CDU-CSU and SPD to raise allowance by EUR 600. Parents with more than one child will profit even more. The increases are retroactively effective as of January 1st.

La Republica – Renzi’s offer to his minority: “Yes to elections in Senate.” Whereas the conflict between Matteo Renzi and the minority of the PD on the electoral reform continues, the PM tries to soften them over the Senate Reform and declares he agrees with the comeback of the elective system, but that bicameralism must stop.
Il Sole 24 Ore – Markets frightened by Athens, spread soaring. Investors are increasingly worried of the risk of a Greek default. IMF Head Christine Lagarde called Alexis Tsipras to meet Greece’s commitments.

Gazeta – Across the seas to Europe. The European Union is pondering over what measures to take about the inflow of migrants from Africa and the Middle East.
SPAIN
El Pais – Rato, detained for several hours for fraud and money laundering. The former vice president has been released after his home and office have been searched by authorities. According to the government, it proves that “justice is the same for everyone.”
Expnasion – Rato arrested. Rodrigo Rato is charged with fraud, money laundering and asset stripping. The Inland Revenue searched his house and his office.

The Guardian – Miliband tells Sturgeon: I won’t do a deal with you. Labour leader rejects offer of anti-Tory coalition, saying risk to UK too great. ©europeanunion2015
