EUROPEAN HEADLINES

BBC Europe – EU’s Barnier visiting Irish border region.  Michel Barnier is on a two-day visit to Ireland ahead of the beginning of Brexit negotiations. He is meeting local business owners, who could be negatively affected if tariffs were imposed on trade between the UK and EU. On Thursday, Mr Barnier said the Irish border issue would be one of his three priorities in negotiations.

Health Minister Beatrice Lorenzin prepared a decree that includes a list of mandatory vaccines for all primary school children. Education Minister Valeria Fedeli noted that such obligations should “not overcome the right to study”. However, Ms Lorenzin claims that she had notified Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni a few days ago, and he confirmed his support.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, in Bucharest: “The CVM must be lifted and will end by January 2019, when Romania takes over the presidency of the EU Council”

President Juncker held a speech on the future of the European Union during his first visit to Romania as President of the European Commission yesterday. Mr Juncker pointed out that “Romania and the European Union go together”.
