EUROPEAN HEADLINES

Financial Times Europe –  Trump promises to halve levies on companies in “tax revolution.” Bid to stem tide of head offices leaving US. Pledges follow tough week for Republicans.

Wall Street Journal Europe – Trump pitches tax breaks. GOP nominee sets out economic plan, calls for sanctions against trading partners.

FRANCE

Le Monde –  Erdogan: “The West ‘contradicts the values it is defending.” The Turkish President gave Le Monde his first interview with Western media since the attempted coup d’état.

Les Echos –  VAT fraud: France plans to tighten its arsenal. The VAT carousel fraud costs several billion euros each year. Some technical solutions exist to hunt down the lost funds.

GERMANY

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung –  Suicide-bomb attack in Ansbach: the terrorist had been in contact with ISIS “for at least a few weeks.” Saudi Arabia has confirmed that the Syrian refugee who blew himself up in Ansbach, Southern Germany, on 24 July, had been in contact with a member of ISIS via a Saudi number.

Süddeutsche Zeitung –  Trump intends to cut taxes drastically. Fewer taxes for businesses, relief for the rich: the Republican candidate tries to make a comeback in the polls with generous promises. Yet, his programme is unaffordable, according to economists.

ITALY
la RepubblicaItaly fears new wave of migrants. If the EU-Turkey deal fails, there are 3 million migrants in Turkey ready to enter Europe.

Il Sole 24 Ore –  Banks and US growth make stock exchanges rise. Atlante 2 beyond minimum level: adhesions for 1.7 billion.

POLAND
Gazeta Wyborcza –  Random sobriety tests. The Ombudsman states in his letter to Prime Minister Beata Szydło that due to a lack of specific regulations, it is not clear if traffic police officers can test drivers for sobriety during the “driving – not drinking” actions. This implies that drivers can refuse to take such tests.

SPAIN
El Pais – New elections will not change 26 June results. Increasing fears about the lack of a proper government, health and education.

Expansion Norwegian Fund to strengthen its position in Spanish Stock Exchange. The Norwegian Pension Fund raised its share in Iberdrola, Dia, Viscofan, Ence and Applus.

UNITED KINGDOM
The Times – New wave of strikes to hit battered commuters. Unions plan joint action to shut down rail network.

The Guardian –  Double victory leaves Corbyn “unassailable.” Leader tightens grip on Labour after high court win and NEC clean sweep.

UNITED STATES
International New York Times – Uk Edition – Japan faces quandary in emperor’s wish to retire. In first public remarks on issue, monarch talks of his age and limitations.
