BBC EuropePutin critic Navalny has eye surgery in Spain after attack. Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny says he has had surgery on his right eye by a doctor in Spain, after suffering chemical burns from green dye that was thrown in his face. In an Instagram post, Mr Navalny said “sadly, I’ve been told I will only recover my sight in several months”. A photo he posted shows his right eye looking bloodshot, and skin damage.

Legislatives: the new battle of projects

The two traditional parties evicted in the first round of the presidential election have revised their programmes. Les Republicains have given up on a VAT increase. The Socialist party sweeps away Benoît Hamon’s “desirable future” in favour of more consensual elements.

The Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry of Slovenia has prepared a proposal for an emergency natural disaster emergency act to recover the damage caused by the bark beetle. The Chamber’s leadership believes the damage is just as bad as after the recent frost, due to which the Government has already announced a special emergency act.
